A small stand of trees perches on a cliff nestled in the Earth Pyramids of Platten, Italy.

A young geological formation, these pyramids were born when a freak storm created channels of powerful water that eroded this hillside. Large stones embedded within the sediment protected the fragile soil below, causing vertical towers of earth to form.

This strange landscape may be hewn from rock, but it is still at the mercy of the elements. At any moment, a storm equally as violent as the one that created it, could destroy this hidden natural wonder.
