30 million years ago, tectonic forces began to buckle and fold solid rock in the South of Europe. Since then, the ceaseless power of the wind and rain have worked to erode these mountains into dust, resulting in this eerie depression being carved into the cliff face. Nobody knows when in this cliff's 30-million-year-old history, did this skull form. What is certain is that these hollow eyes watch us now and will probably continue to gaze across the landscape for millions of years more.
Lit with lights mounted to drones in the middle of the night, it was only then, that this skull appeared. In the bright light of day, the contours of the rock were much less visible. The fiery glow on the horizon is from a distant city, 900 metres below in the adjacent valley, which lit up the eyes of the skull in a magical way.
