Skin and Bones

In 2014, the Rhone Glacier was cloaked in white thermal insulating blankets designed to reflect solar radiation. It was a last-ditch effort to preserve the glacier against the relentless retreat of the ice. The glacier, once a colossal titan of frost, was home to Europe’s largest man-made ice cave.

A decade later, what remains of the ice now lies exposed, its "skin" of protective fabric torn and crumpled like the remnants of a fallen giant. The glimpses of blue ice hints at the glacier’s once-mighty form, serving as a reminder that climate change is a global challenge that can’t be faced along.
